Lot description
Estimations: 100 EUR
Hadrian (117-138 AD) AR denarius (Silver, 3.46g, ). Rome, ca. 131
Obv: HADRIANVS AVGVSTVS, bare-headed bust right, fold of cloak on left shoulder and behind neck
Rev: FELICITA / TI AVG P P in field, COS III in exergue, galley rowed right by five oarsmen, emperor seated in stern, raising right hand, in cabin between legionary eagle and standard.
Ref: Strack 324, pl. V (Vienna, same dies). BMCRE p. 309 note. RSC 701a.
Very rare with galley right and P P following AVG, not after COS III. Apparently only the third known denarius with this reverse type, and the second known with this particular obverse type. Strack 324 knew just two such denarii sharing the same reverse die. One of these coins shares its obverse die too with our coin, with bust left, while the other has a right-facing portrait.

Year: 117-138
Diameter: 19 mm
Weight: 2.98 g
Material: Silver
