Biography
Throughout his life, the artist was associated with the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow and here he worked his way from assistant to dean of the painting department. In 1940-42 he studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Cracow with Stanislaw Kamocki, Jozef Mehoffer, Aandrzej Jurkiewicz. He continued his studies in 1945-48 at the Academy of Fine Arts under Wojciech Weiss, Eugeniusz Eibisch - he received his diploma in 1952. Since 1972, he ran his own studio at the Faculty of Painting. In 1987-93 he was rector of the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow, and in 1986 was appointed professor. He painted mainly genre scenes, landscapes, still lifes and portraits. He was also involved in monumental painting, design graphics and drawing film. His paintings are joyful, full of life and light. His works can be seen in all major museums in Poland and in Moscow and Florence at the Uffizi Museum. He has participated in more than 400 group exhibitions in Poland, Europe and Japan. He had about 50 solo exhibitions in Poland, Great Britain, Austria, Sweden and Germany. In 1996, a retrospective exhibition of the artist was held in Poznań, prepared by ABC Gallery as part of the series "Masters of Polish Contemporary Painting."
