Estimations: 178 EUR

Obv. the duke standing in mail armour and spearing the open mouth of an upturned dragon (with a straight tail) on the right.

Rev. within a triple pearled border, cross with pellets on its ends; in each angle, a single large pellet and a single small one.

Silver, 0.28 g, 13.8 mm. Frynas P.6.5; Kopicki 44 (R2); Stronczyński 39c; Suchodolski typ 4; Śnieżko 4.3. Grade II-, no damages, weakly struck.

After changed a few penny types, more than ten years of Boleslaus Wrymouth's reign were filled with the issue of uninscribed pennies with the depiction of the duke slaying a dragon — a universal allegory of a Christian ruler fighting the forces of evil and chaos. The weight standard of these coins is very uneven and was probably lowered gradually during the minting — this specimen is very light, so it belongs to later issue. This is also indicated by simplified details of the image. The issue was probably followed by the first Polish bracteates.
