An extremely rare penny from 1598 formerly erroneously attributed to the Poznan mint. Currently, thanks to the discovery of Mr. Marcin Zmudzin, it is known that it is a thoroughly Lublin product.
The ring is slightly bent with a partially preserved luster.
The varieties of this grosz are among the huge rarities, while this particular variant is undescribed in Kaminski and Kurpiewski and in his catalog J. Dutkowski estimated its degree of rarity at R8.
This variant is characterized by an error corrected in the legend of the obverse SIGISM S/III.
Obverse: Royal half-figure with scepter, clockwise, outer rim legend:
SIGISM S/III D G REX PO M D L;
Reverse: Crowned shields with the Coats of Arms of the Crown of the Kingdom of Poland, the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the Vasa Sceptre, in the outer rim legend:
GROSVS REG POLONI 98;
