The highest denomination of the mint of Stanislaw Augustus introduced by the Resolution of June 1794. A large gold issue of the Kosciuszko Insurrection period.
A coin sought after and valued by collectors. Introduced to the Polish minting on the pattern of French gold coins, with a distinctive graphic design of the reverse. Distinguished from domestic ducats also by its larger size, which resulted from the mint rate. The gold content inherent in the standards of Dutch ducats was retained, increasing the weight by adding more silver, among other things, hence their more pale yellow straw color than coins with more copper.
The denomination, according to Rafal Janke, was minted between 1794 and 1795, which he argues by careful analysis of the stamps. The present piece is from the second year of minting. It was minted using the obverse stamp of a two-zloty coin (with a doubled letter O in POL), known only for the 1795 vintage. A variety with 19 leaves on the left side of the wreath.
Mintage of 5,256 pieces.
Gold, diameter 29 mm, weight 12.27 g.
