Extremely rare pieces.
Kraków (or Sandomierz) issue from 1230-40, before the Mongol invasion of 1241.
The offered brakteat depicts a ruler in a cloak with the whole arsenal of means characteristic of princely power:
- in the right hand a sword poking upwards symbolizing the ability to defend the state, chivalrous bravery and the will to win;
- in the left hand a shield, also symbolizing the ability to defend.
In turn, the uncovered head with the arranged hairstyle evokes ceremonial associations.
The motifs are taken from earlier East German Anchal or Meissen brakteats of the 12th century.
Beautifully minted and preserved numismatic coin, with mint luster, charming patina.
Chipping of the disc.
For the best collections - definitely recommended.
