On a wide blank, with good centering, this example has hardly circulated. A gray patina covers both sides. Extremely rare and exceptionally well preserved. Superb at Fleur de coin.
Cornelia Supera is little known, probably the wife of Emilian, who reigned for only three months in 253. Emilian was defeated by Valerian, who claimed the purple and headed for Rome with a powerful army. Emilian's men, believing the situation to be hopeless, kill their commander at Spoleto. It is not known whether Cornelia Supera shared her husband's fate or was spared.
