Mithridates II was one of the greatest Parthian kings, son of Artabanus I (127-124 BC). He began with the restoration of Parthian rule in Mesopotamia and marked the border on the Euphrates. He had to continue the fight against the Scythians and made Sakastan a protectorate. He strengthened his position in Asia Minor and intervened in Armenia to maintain the Parthian protectorate. The last years of his reign were disturbed by numerous usurpations.  He was eliminated by Gotarzes I (95-80 BC).
