Jan Dobkowski (b. 1942, Łomża) Studied 1962-1968 at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts under Prof. Juliusz Studnicki and Prof. Jan Cybis, with whom he defended his diploma thesis. He was awarded the Prize of the Minister of Culture and Art for the dissemination of visual art (1970), and received a scholarship from the Kosciuszko Foundation in New York (1972). In 1978 he was awarded the Cyprian Norwid Art Criticism Award for the best exhibition of the year. In 1994 he was awarded the Jan Cybis Prize for lifetime achievement. His works are in the collections of, among others, the Museum of Art in Lodz, the National Museums in Warsaw, Wroclaw and Poznan, the Guggenheim Museum in New York and private collections in Poland and abroad.
