Pawel Kowalewski (born 1958) - painter, installation artist, educator and entrepreneur. From 1987 to 1993 he studied at the Faculty of Painting of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw in the studio of Prof. Stefan Gierowski. He was a member of Gruppa. He participated in all its exhibitions and activities. Since 1985 he has been a teacher at the Industrial Design Department of his alma mater. In 1991, he founded his own advertising agency, which he still runs today. Kowalewski's work includes painting on canvas and paper, as well as sculpture, installations and ready mades. Until 1989, Kowalewski's paintings were figurative, expressive in form and color. His subject matter was dominated by literary, historical and patriotic references. The artist also did not shy away from the problems of existence and themes taken from everyday life. The latter came to the fore more strongly in a series of small sculptures enclosed in glass display cases (1989-1990), and later in paintings and collages and installations assembled from them.
