Work description:
Jerzy Panek was engaged in artistic painting and printmaking, and often combined his works into cycles. The theme of self-portrait has repeatedly recurred in his work.
In the painting on display, the intense color palette combined with the expressiveness of the intersecting tangle of color spots of lines create a portrait that is impressionistic in expression. In the work are discernible simplifications of form characteristic of the artist's work and the use of oil pastel technique. The whole work is filled with vibrant light.
The offered work belongs to a wide series of "Self-portraits", in which Jerzy Panek depicted his own person using a variety of artistic forms and compositional approaches. The painting, against the background of the laconic in its form works so characteristic of the artist, stands out for its richness of painting means and form.
