The painting depicts the observatory of the Jagiellonian University near Krakow.
From the account of Prof. Jan Pamula, the work was painted at the turn of 1969-1970 at an open-air painting workshop near Krakow.
An early work of Prof. Pamula, still representational but already with elements of abstraction.
Biographical note by the author:
Born in 1944 in Spytkowice, near Oświęcim. Studied painting and printmaking at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow, 1961 -1968, and at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux Arts in Paris, 1967. He received his diploma in 1968. He is currently a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. He works in painting, printmaking and electronic media. From 1996-2002 - Pro-rector; 2002-2008 - Rector of the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow; 1992 - Visiting Professor at UCONN /USA/; 2013 - Laureate of the Award of the City of Cracow. More than 60 solo exhibitions at home and abroad. Participation in several hundred group exhibitions, international, domestic and foreign. Numerous awards, especially for graphic art at international and national exhibitions. In 2003 - Witold Wojtkiewicz Award for painting exhibition " Geometric Objects - retrospective" at Starmach Gallery. Works in museum collections: National Museum in Warsaw; National Museum of Krakow; Museum of Contemporary Art MOCAK in Krakow; Museum of the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow Museum named after L. Wyczółkowski in Bydgoszcz, Museum of Architecture in Wroclaw; District Museums / Szczecin, Chelm, Lublin, Radom/;Collections of the Jagiellonian Library, Library of Gdansk, Cracow University of Technology, Graphic Collections of the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow; Victoria and Albert Museum in London; Albertina in Vienna; Portland Art Museum in Oregon; Museum in Bochum; Mondrian Museum in Amersfoort; Vass Collection, Veszprem; Peter C. Ruppert "Concrete Art in Europe after 1945," Würzburg Museum. He is a long-time member of ZPAP, and a member of the "Krakow Group," a multiple curator and juror of exhibitions and competitions.
