Between 1934 and 1939, at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow, he studied painting with W. Jarocki and I. Pieńkowski, and stage design under K. Frycz. He was a leading creator of the avant-garde in painting, theater and stage design. He was the creator of artistic manifestos and happenings. He founded the Conspiracy Theater in 1943 and the Cricot 2 theater in 1956, and was associated with the Cracow Group. He had numerous exhibitions and theatrical performances at home and abroad. He painted symbolic and abstract scenes and set designs.
