Jerzy Nowosielski wrote about Roman Zakrzewski (his student) as a new Modigliani, who rose from the dead to complete his paintings in a different historical reality. This is definitely an apt parallel - in Zakrzewski's work we see similar, manneristically elongated figures and a mysterious, subtle side of femininity. The artist also drew inspiration from Renaissance art, especially the quattrocento: the references are evident in the compositional arrangements, colors and linear treatment of the portrayed.
