Biography
A leading figure in Polish amateur art. She was originally from the Vilnius region. In her youth, she helped her family on the farm and earned extra income by weaving. After the war, she repatriated to Poland, following her husband, who had settled in Warsaw. During a visit to the Tretyakov Gallery, she became fascinated by art and decided to take up painting herself. Initially, she created copies of paintings, and beginning in 1959, she studied at art centers, including under the guidance of Barbara Jonscher. Her work quickly gained recognition, and in 1963 she exhibited in Miami. Artistically active until the end of her life, she is considered one of the most important Polish artists of naïve art.
