In the work of Ignacy Czwartos, an important trend is portraiture, individual and collective, usually in frontal view. The artist creates a kind of painterly epitaphs, which he dedicates to artists he holds in high esteem: Stefan Gierowski, Stanisław Fijałkowski, Jerzy Nowosielski, as well as Władysław Strzemiński or, as in the case of the presented painting, Andrzej Wróblewski.
In the center of the composition, Czwartos placed Wróblewski's painting titled Fish, while he showed the author in a horizontal position, below, in a symbolically outlined coffin. In the other figures, we recognize the Krakow gallerists: Jan Michalski and Marta Tarabuła, depicted in blue hues, and, as Joanna Oporek comments, life and death, as it were, swap places here and the pessimistic message is reversed - the painting becomes an expression of hope for the permanence of what carries true value, beyond time, beyond changing conjunctures and evaluation criteria, beyond interpretations (Joanna Oporek, text accompanying the exhibition Każdy ma swoich bohaterów, Otwarta Pracownia, Krakow 2018).
