oil, canvas, size 35 x 50 cm, signed p.d. "Wł.Chmieliński"
Wladyslaw Chmielinski (1911-1979) is a varsavist faithful to the subject throughout his artistic life. He practiced oil painting and watercolor, and views of Warsaw with its architecture formed the bulk of his artistic legacy. They were often an iconographic source for the rebuilding capital due to their almost documentary value in rendering architectural details. The artist took up other subjects as well over time, but in the last years of his life spent in Denmark he returned to the main motif that brought him both popularity and recognition.
