Tomasz Sętowski - painter, graphic artist and sculptor, representative of the contemporary surrealist trend. He studied art at the Higher School of Pedagogy in Czestochowa, but claims himself that his studies gave him only theoretical preparation and he is a self-taught painter. In 1991 he became a member of the Association of Polish Artists. He debuted in 1994 with an individual exhibition at the Częstochowa BWA. In subsequent years, his works were included in the traveling exhibition "Polish Surrealists" (1995-1997). He participated in numerous exhibitions at home and abroad. In 2000, he opened an author's gallery in his hometown of Czestochowa under the banner of "Museum of Imagination."
His works, extremely popular with the public, are categorized as so-called magic realism. Sętowski draws on motifs taken from literature or theater, but above all on his own rich imagination. Recurring motifs can be seen in his work, such as the juxtaposition of realistic female portraits with unreal silhouettes, meticulous depictions of fantastic architecture or seascapes marked by mysterious symbolism. Tomasz Sętowski successfully combines a high-class painting technique with a wealth of poetic-surrealist themes.
