Biography
Graduate of the Faculty of Painting at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń (diploma in 2006 in easel painting under Prof. Lech Wolski and wall painting under Prof. Krzysztof Pituła). Involved in street art since the mid-1990s, he creates paintings, murals, abstract graffiti and installations. He currently works as a teacher of painting and drawing at the High School of Fine Arts in Olsztyn. The artist's style was perfectly described by Cedar Lewisohn in the introduction to his catalog: Bartek Swiatecki's works combine abstraction and graffiti. High art and youth culture, modernism and skateboarding. His paintings are based on geometric concentrations and angular forms that refer to futuristic architectural designs. The apparent smoothness of Swiatecki's works often stands in opposition to the dilapidated surroundings in which they are placed. The visual language used in the paintings provides a glimpse into a bold new world where graffiti and fine arts intermingle. A world where graffiti draws as readily from De Stijl as it does from Wu-Tang Clan.
