Biography
Zdzislaw Walczak was born in 1926 in Zakopane and associated his entire artistic life with this region. He worked at the Zakopane Pattern Workshops Cepelia, dealing with the decoration of wooden objects. In the 1960s he became particularly interested in painting on glass. He mainly took up subjects related to Podhale. Scenes from the life of highlanders, legendary figures, folk rituals are the most common motifs of his works. Equally interesting are the artist's compositions with religious themes. Walczak performed a kind of updating by setting biblical scenes in Tatra scenery and giving the figures of saints Zakopane features and costumes.
