Zdzislaw Salaburski (1922 Czestochowa - 2006 Warsaw) - painter, actor; After graduating from the R. Traugutt Gymnasium in Czestochowa in 1939, during the German occupation of 1941-45 he took private lessons in painting and drawing with Zdzislaw Kalędkiewicz. After the war he found himself in Cracow, where he continued his artistic education under Prof. Pautsch. At the same time, in 1946, he passed an extramural exam before the commission of the Union of Polish Stage Artists, gaining the right to practice as an actor. He worked at theaters in Torun, Lodz and Warsaw, doing stage design there as well. He finally abandoned his work in the theater in 1961, devoting himself fully to painting. He was a member of the "Group 55" at the "Krzywe Koło" Gallery of Modern Art. Since his debut at the union exhibition of ZPAP in Czestochowa in 1945, he participated in many exhibitions both at home and abroad. He practiced easel painting, his usually sizable abstract compositions refer to the aesthetics of Tashism. The structure of the paintings and refined colors, the dynamism of the form and the plasticity of the matter place Salaburski among the significant representatives of this trend in Polish painting.
