Wladyslaw Jackiewicz - painter, longtime educator and rector of the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Gdansk. He was born on February 17, 1924 in Podbrodzie, Vilnius region. In 1952 he graduated from the Faculty of Painting at the State Higher School of Visual Arts in Sopot, in the atelier of Artur Nacht-Samborski. From 1951 to 1984 he worked at his alma mater, from 1965 to 1968 he was dean of the Faculty of Painting, from 1968 to 1969 he was pro-rector of the school. In 1969-1981 he served as rector. He was a co-founder of the Gdansk Group. For his work and pedagogical activity he was decorated with numerous awards, including the Knight's Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta, the Gold Cross of Merit, the gold medal "Meritorious to Culture Gloria Artis", the Gdansk Medal of St. Adalbert. He passed away on March 30, 2016.
