Włodzimierz Sawulak studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow with W. Jarocki, T. Axentowicz, F. Pautsch and S. Kamocki, among others. Kamocki. He spent the years 1947-1948 in France, thanks to a scholarship from the government there. He traveled to Canada, the USA and Paris. In 1946 he became an educator at the University of Cracow, and from 1950 he was a professor. His students included K. Kiwerski, Z.M. Maciejewski. The subjects of his works were still lifes, portraits and figural compositions.
