Tomasz Sętowski graduated with a degree in art from the Higher School of Pedagogy in Częstochowa. Despite this, he claims that the study gave him only theoretical preparation and he taught himself to paint. In 1991, he became a member of ZPAP. After his first solo show in the country (exhibition at the BWA, Czestochowa 1994), his works were shown at the traveling exhibition Polish Surrealists, which took place in Poland in 1995-1997. In 1998, the New York gallery Stricoff Fine Art Ltd began to deal with his work. The artist represents a trend popular with the public called magical realism. He creates his compositions in a mostly layered manner, placing figures in fantastic, colorful costumes.
He collaborates with galleries in Poland and abroad, taking part in many exhibitions. He uses oil, acrylic and graphic techniques such as etching and soft varnish. The artist has also developed his own gouache technique. He has also designed many sculptures. His works reflect an extremely rich imagination, creating a world full of diverse emotions and associations.
