Austrian landscape and architecture painter of the 20th century. Representative of exile art. Studied at the Academy of Fine Arts with Rudolf Bacher. Travels to Italy, Yugoslavia, Russia, Switzerland, France, Portugal and America. Acquaintance with Romain Rolland. Fondness for the poet Walt Whitman and the novelist Otto Flake. Exhibited regularly in the Hagenbund. In 1938 he emigrated to Grenoble in France, and in Paris in 1939 he met Willy Eisenschitz and Georg Merkel. 1941 emigration to the USA, 1947 return to Vienna. 1984 exhibition in the Austrian Gallery Belvedere, 1988 exhibition in the Vienna Museum. Created mainly landscapes including pastels with impressive mountain scenes and mountain landscapes from the Valais Alps.

After studying at the Vienna Academy, Theodor Alescha continued his education largely self-taught. From 1918 he made numerous journeys through Europe, e.g. to Italy, Switzerland, France and Portugal. His landscape paintings in particular attracted the attention of colleagues and collectors at exhibitions in the Hagenbund. In 1934 he went into exile in Switzerland and arrived in the USA in 1941 via France, Spain and Portugal. In 1947 Alescha returned to Vienna at the invitation of City Councilor for Culture Viktor Matejka, where he was given a studio by the municipality and supported by state purchases. In 1984 he was honored with a retrospective at the Austrian Gallery, and in 1988 with a special exhibition at the Historical Museum.
