Teresa Rudowicz (Toruń, March 16, 1928 - Cracow, 1994) studied in 1948-50 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdansk (based in Sopot), then at the Faculty of Painting of the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow, which she graduated in 1954, receiving a diploma in the studio of Czeslaw Rzepinski. In November 1956, she was among the co-founders of the Cracow Group Art Association. She participated in most of the Krakow Group's exhibitions at home and abroad. In the 1950s she painted and created lithographic compositions in the spirit of informel abstraction. From the beginning of the 1960s, the most characteristic collages for her were created, sometimes compared with the parallel tendencies of matter painting and assemblages. The artist built her works with a clear aesthetic preference for the authenticity of the elements used (even exposing herself to accusations from some critics that she was "spoiling" old prints, original engravings or decorative elements). Her works, partly due to this authenticity, partly as a result of painting treatments, are characterized by a noble, warm patina. She created collages until the end of her life, with a breakout in the early 1980s, when, influenced by the atmosphere of martial law, she painted religious compositions ("Crucifixions"), presented in the circulation of independent culture.with parallel tendencies of matter painting and assemblages.
