He was born in 1909 in Warsaw. In 1929 he began his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. He studied painting, stage design and interior design under Mieczyslaw Kotarbinski and Władysław Daszewski, from whom he received a diploma in stage design in 1937. After graduation, he was involved in stage design at the Lodz Theater under Kazimierz Wroczynski and applied arts; among other things, he was the chief designer of the National Fair in Rivne on the Styr River.In 1949, he joined the 4F + R group founded by Alfred Lenica, among others.He participated in the group's first exhibition. A year later he became President of the District Board of the Association of Polish Artists in Poznan, he held this position for two terms. At that time (1951-1955), thanks to his efforts, 41 art studios were built and transferred to artists in the Old Town of Poznań
In 1993, he participated in the exhibition Vector of Art at the Arsenal with leading modern artists such as Jerzy Bereś, Anna Cyronek, Stanisław Fijałkowski, Stefan Gierowski, Zdzisław Jurkiewicz, Jerzy Kalucki, Jarosław Kozłowski and Erna Rosenstein.
Tadeusz Kalinowski's works can be found in the collections of, among others: National Museum in Poznan and Warsaw, as well as in private collections in Poland, Germany, Austria, Sweden, and the United States.
The presented work comes from the Kaleidoscopic period. The paintings, created between 1976 and 1980, are geometric compositions, built in the shape of a kaleidoscope image - arrangements of circles, rectangles and triangles, scattered across the plane of the canvas like colored glasses, changing with every movement of the hand.
