Tadeusz Dominik (Szymanów 14 I 1928 - Warsaw 20 V 2014) studied at the Faculty of Painting of the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw under Prof. J.Cybis (1946-51, diploma 1953). From 1951 he was a teacher at his alma mater, initially as Cybis' assistant. Since 1965 he ran his own studio, and in 1979 he received the title of professor. He retired in 1990. During his studies, he was influenced - through the personality and art of Cybis - by the ideas of Polish Colorism, which he then continued creatively and independently. Initially, he created figurative paintings. He made his debut at the famous exhibition at the Warsaw Arsenal in 1955, where he won an award. During this period, in addition to painting, he practiced woodcuts, using broad planes of black and white (he exhibited his woodcuts, among others, at the Venice Biennale in 1956). In the second half of the 1950s he began to paint abstract paintings, initially maintained in the expressive and spontaneous style of informel painting. In the 1960s, he enriched his works with textural effects. The painter's invariable inspiration was nature, the richness and color of its forms. He has remained faithful to it to this day, subjecting the very way of painting to changes. He gradually lightened and smoothed his compositions, introducing decorative effects, such as rhythmic repetitions of forms or a kind of painted "raster", regularly marking parts of the composition. Among his many awards, he received the laurel of the "Golden Grape" in Zielona Gora in 1963, the Grand Prix of the Festival of Polish Contemporary Painting in Szczecin in 1968, the George Rowney Award in London in 1973 and the Jan Cybis Award in Warsaw in 1973. In parallel with painting, he was involved in tapestry, ceramics, also computer graphics.

He died on May 20, 2014 at his home near Warsaw.
