Biography
Tadasuke Kuwayama, more widely known as Tadasky, grew up in Nagoya, Japan. For years, his father worked as a Shinto temple builder, which had a profound effect on both the painter's work and the way he viewed art and the creative process itself. He first came to the United States in 1961. At that time he began studying art - first at the Art Students League in New York, and later at the Brooklyn Museum of Art School. Beginning in the 1960s, Tadasky developed his own individual artistic language within the emerging trend of optical art. His first solo exhibition was held at the Kootz Gallery in New York in 1965 And in the same year his works were presented during the famous exhibition The Responsive Eye at the Museum of Modern Art. The New York institution purchased two of the Japanese artist's canvases for its permanent collection, and from then on his career moved at a surprisingly rapid pace. After the Kinetic and Optic Art Today exhibition at the Albright-Knox Gallery, Tadasky's work began to become one of the most coveted art objects in many prestigious private AND institutional art collections. Today, his concentric circles, pulsating with multicolored lines, can be found at the Baltimore Museum in Florida, the Boca Raton Museum of Art, the Lowe Art Museum at the University of Miami, the Columbus Museum of Art in Massachusetts, the Harvard Art Museums in Cambridge, the Indianapolis Museum of Art, the Krannert Art Museum at the University of Illinois, the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, the University of Iowa Museum of Art, the University of Virginia Art Museum, the Yale University Art Gallery, the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo in Buenos Aires and numerous galleries in Japan, among others.
