Stefan NORBLIN
1892 Warsaw - 1952 San Francisco
Great-grandson of Jan Piotr Norblin, illustrator, advertising graphic artist, portrait painter, fashion designer as well as theater set designer. He was one of the most sought-after artists in Poland during the interwar period. He is best known for his Art Nouveau and Modernist advertising posters, as well as his paintings and frescoes in the Art Deco style. He studied painting in Antwerp and Dresden. In 1920 he took part in the Polish-Soviet War. After the war he returned to Warsaw, where he married Lena Żelichowska, a well-known actress and dancer at the time. In September 1939, he left the country. During World War II, he stayed in India, where he did a series of paintings for the Maharaja of Jodhpur, decorating the interior of the Umaid Bhawan Palace, the country's largest private residence. He also painted portraits of the local aristocracy and decorated their residences. After the war, he settled in the United States, where he earned money as a portrait painter.
