Biography
A representative of the contemporary avant-garde of painting, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow in the studios of Zbigniew Pronaszko and Karol Frycz. At the same time he studied art history at the Jagiellonian University under Wojslaw Mole. In 1949, he settled in Warsaw. In 1956-61 he cooperated with the Krzywe Koło Gallery run by Marian Bogusz. From 1962 to 1996 he taught at Warsaw's AS P, where he served as dean of the Faculty of Painting in 1975-81, and was elected rector-elect in 1983. The martial law authorities firmly rejected this candidacy. In the 1980s he was associated with the "independent culture" circle. In 1980 he was awarded the Jan Cybis Prize.
