Studied between 1946 and 1951 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Lodz under the direction of W. Strzeminski and S. Wegner. From 1947 to 1993 he worked at his alma mater as an educator. He took up the position of professor in 1983. represented Poland in 1972 at the Venice Biennale. In 1977 he was awarded the Cyprian Kamil Norwid Art Criticism Award, and in 1990 he was honored with the prestigious Jan Cybis Award. He has also received many international awards, including at the "Bianco e Nero" exhibition in Lugano (1972), at the Ljubljana Biennale of Graphics (1977). His works are in many museums, including the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow and the Tate Gallery in London.
