Soter JAXA-MAŁACHOWSKI (1867-1952). Painter, an outstanding marine artist, originally from the eastern borderlands. educated at the drawing school in Odesa, then studied at the Cracow SSP under F. Cynk, I. Jablonski and W. Luszczkiewicz. From 1894 he continued his studies at the Drawing and Painting School in Munich. After returning to Poland, he settled permanently in Cracow, from where he moved to Zakopane for two years. He painted mainly landscapes - seascapes (from the Baltic and Mediterranean Sea - souvenirs from his numerous trips to Italy), views of the Tatra Mountains, nocturnes and backstreets of Cracow, rarely portraits. The most successful were his marine paintings. He painted in oil and watercolor, as well as gouache and pastels. He was a member of TZSP in Warsaw. He participated in many exhibitions in Krakow (here he had several solo exhibitions), Warsaw, Lviv, Lodz, Poznan and Lublin.
