Austrian painter of the 20th century. Representative of the New Objectivity. First studied architecture in Vienna, from 1919 to 1924 at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich with J. Becker-Bundahl, Ludwig von Herterich, Karl Caspar and the restorer Max Dörner. Studied the works of Max Beckmann, Otto Dix and Karl Hofer there. From 1925 with Karl Sterrer at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, from 1927 member of the Vienna Secession. Worked in the former studio of Albert Paris Gütersloh, where he held his first exhibition in Vienna with Josef Dobrowsky, Ernst Huber and Franz von Zülow. Thanks to wealthy patrons from 1930 trips to France and Italy, exhibitions in Germany, Switzerland and USA. One of his students and patrons is the leather manufacturer Fritz Sinaiberger, later Frederic Serger. In 1934 and 1936 represented at the Venice Biennale. In 1943 he headed the class for portrait painting at the Academy in Vienna. In 1944, together with 5000 other "politically unreliable" in Schanz camp of SA guards in Bad Radkersburg. Painted the signing of the State Treaty in two pastel sketches and an oil sketch and recorded the burning of the Vienna State Opera in a painting. In the post-war period he was a portraitist in demand, created portraits of many politicians and actors. 1996 Retrospective at the Austrian Gallery Belvedere.

Sergius Pauser studied from 1919 to 1924 in Munich and from 1925 to 1926 at the Vienna Academy with Karl Sterrer. He lived in Vienna, became a member of the Secession in 1927 and received the Austrian State Prize in 1932. Study trips took him to Italy, France and Switzerland in 1938, where he was encouraged in his realistically expressive style of painting. In 1943 Pauser took over the management of a master class for portrait painting at the Academy and was appointed professor in 1947. In the post-war period he was a sought-after portraitist and was highly involved in the Austrian art scene. He made the likenesses of many politicians and actors and received numerous awards and honors. His work was shown in a major retrospective at the Austrian Gallery in 1996 and is represented in numerous important collections.
