Artist associated with conceptual art and visualism. From 1953 to 1959 he studied at the Department of Precision Mechanics at the Warsaw University of Technology. Then he studied painting with Aleksander Kobzdej at the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts, from which he graduated in 1966. During his studies, he participated in W. Porębski's seminar on the relationship between science and art. In 1965, the artist formulated his own program of artistic pursuits and realized the first work of the series: "Attempts at visual presentation of statistical distributions," for which he received the First Prize at the Symposium of Artists and Scientists in Pulawy in 1966. A few years later, he took up the position of lecturer at the academy, and in 1985-1987 and 1987-1990 he was its vice-rector. Initially, he created paintings and constructions based on basic elements - black or white squares or cubes. Winiarski also worked as a stage designer at Warsaw's Polish Theater. He is the 1996 recipient of the Jan Cybis Award. He has participated in many prestigious exhibitions, including: Sao Paulo Biennale (1969), Biennale des Konstruktivismus in Nuremberg (1969 and 1971), "Construction in Process" , in Lodz (1981) and Munich (1985), "Reductivismus", in Vienna (1992). He also participated in the neo-constructivist movement of J. Blum-Kwiatkowski. Ryszard Winiarski's works can be found in many museums in Poland, including Warsaw, Krakow, Wroclaw, as well as abroad - in the McCeory collection in New York, the Museum of Modern Art in New Delhi and many private collections. In 2017, an exhibition of works by Ryszard Winiarski, "Event - Information - Image," was held as one of the accompanying events of the 57th Venice Biennale.
