FIGURE ON.
Ryszard Grzyb, painter and poet, whose artistic debut was in the mid
1980s. One of the founders of "Gruppa", editor of the magazine "Oj
Well Already." In the 1980s he was associated with the expressive current of new
figuration. At that time he created so-called "papers" - large-format
works made with gouache, works sometimes with ironic overtones. An absurd
tone also characterizes the painter's later compositions created
in the late 1980s and early 1990s, when the artist returned to the
traditional technique - oil painting. At that time there are also increasingly
bolder color combinations, which evolve in subsequent years
to contrasting colors and the motif of animals: rhinos, rabbits, turtles.
Since 2004, the artist has been running a project called "Overhead Sentences," in which he
he presents short poetic phrases in public spaces.
