Rudolf Priebe was primarily a marine artist and painter of city views. He began his painting studies at the School of Art in Breslau under professors Arnold Busch and Eduard Kaempffer. He then trained at the Academy in Munich under Ludwig Herterich. He lived and worked in Hamburg. His favorite subjects were fishing boats moored at the shores and ships shown on the high seas, kept in warm brown tones and painted with broad brushstrokes.
