A gift from the artist
The auction of the painting by Roman Opalinski is another opportunity at Agra's auctions to help the victims of the aggression in Ukraine. All proceeds from the sale of the painting will again be donated to the "Our Choice" Foundation, which provides humanitarian aid to Ukrainian citizens.
Established in 2009, the "Our Choice" Foundation works on behalf of Ukrainian migrants in Poland, helps them integrate into Polish society and Polish culture, and familiarizes Poles with Ukrainian culture. Currently, it has extended its care to refugees, while it has expanded its mission by purchasing medicines and medical supplies for hospitals in war-stricken Ukraine.
Roman Opalinski is an artist with a strong social commitment. Since 2014, he has been organizing charity auctions where paintings by Ukrainian artists are exhibited, while the proceeds are used to purchase equipment (including: vests, helmets, thermal cameras, night vision devices and radios). In 2016, an ambulance was purchased after one of the auctions, subsequently donated to the Border Guard Service in eastern Ukraine.
Since 2022, the painter has been particularly active in collecting donations to support sick children in Ukraine.
Roman Opalinsky was born in Grodek near Lviv, and graduated from the Department of Artistic Glass, Lviv Institute of Applied and Decorative Arts (now Lviv National Academy of Art). He paints, and also creates works in printmaking and artistic blacksmithing. He participates in many Ukrainian and international exhibitions, among which were the expositions Autumn Salons and Art of the Free World in Lviv, Art as an Ambassador of Freedom and Democracy in Kiev, international plein-air events in Poland, group exhibitions in Germany, the Netherlands, France and Slovakia. The artist himself believes that the most discernible influence on his work was the Old Russian art of icon writing, Ukrainian folk art, the works of Picasso, Malevich and the French Impressionists. His works are in private collections in Poland, Germany, the Netherlands, the USA, Canada, Australia and Israel.
