Rafał Olbiński (born 1943) - painter, poster artist, illustrator, graphic designer, stage designer and co-founder of the so-called Polish school of poster art. In 1969 he graduated from the Faculty of Architecture at the Warsaw University of Technology. In 1981, he moved to Paris and then emigrated to New York. In 1985 he took a job as a lecturer at the School of Visual Arts in New York. Olbinski is highly regarded in Poland and abroad, with 38 solo exhibitions in the US, Germany, Japan, Poland, Belgium, Chile, Switzerland, the Netherlands, France and Venezuela. He has been honored with more than 150 awards for his work. The most prestigious are: the Artistic Oscar for the Most Significant Poster of the Year (1994); the award for the best British illustration at the Prix Savignac in Paris (1994); first prize in the New York City Capital of the World competition (1995); the Stephan Dohanos award for the best work of the year (1996); and the Gloria Artist gold medal from the President of Poland (2006).
