In 1975 she graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, receiving a diploma from the Department of Workshop Graphics. In 2009, she received a doctoral degree from her alma mater. Monika Małkowska, in addition to her artistic work, is engaged in cultural journalism and art criticism. In 1994-2010 she wrote for the daily newspaper "Rzeczpospolita". She is a well-known author of programs on culture and art on Polish radio and television.
