Monika Malewska was born in Warsaw, Poland. She received a BFA from the University of Manitoba in Canada and an MFA from the University of Texas at San Antonio. She is currently an associate professor at Juniata College. Malewska works in several artistic media, particularly painting, drawing and photography. The artist uses motifs characteristic of American pop culture in her work, such as the US flag, donuts poured with icing, bacon slices, dolls and toys. Malewska arranges compositions from them levitating in the air, which are characterized by lightness, irony and humor. Malewska's works have been shown in various galleries and museums, including Phoenix Gallery, NYC, Blank Space Gallery, NYC, Denise Bibro Fine Art Gallery, NYC, Camel Art Space, Brooklyn, NY, Blue Star Complex in San Antonio, Texas, Benton Museum in Storrs, Connecticut, New Britain Museum of American Art in New Britain, Connecticut, Orange County Center for Contemporary Art, Santa Ana, California, to name a few. Her work has been featured in Huff Post (Culture and Art section), Direct Art Magazine, Hi- Fructose, Fresh Paint Magazine, Gastronomica: The Journal of Food and Culture and other publications.
