On the reverse on the upper loom strip the stamp of the gallery Jorge Ricolea of Madrid, repeated on the middle loom strip.

Miguel Macaya's Bestiary features the most diverse animals - from the frog to the rhinoceros - but the zebra is portrayed by the painter with exceptional frequency. The contrast between the stripes of this animal provides a great opportunity for painterly experimentation, and Macaya is a master at playing with chiaroscuro. A spectacle takes place between the canvas and the viewer - the artist casts light pointillistically to guide the gaze of the beholder with precision. This is emphasized by Marie-Claire Uberquoi, a journalist and Spanish art critic: In today's art world, Macaya is a white raven who seeks and finds inspiration in the privacy of his own studio and loves painting above all else. He makes no secret of his fascination with the Spanish masters - Ribera, Solana, or Goya. In many of his paintings you can see a predilection for tenebrism, which translates into an almost obsessive use of black. The ubiquitous color [...] gives his works a mysterious dimension that is so intriguing to the viewer. [miguelmacaya.com/en/textos]
