Mateusz Szczypiński'sutopian collagesevoke a feeling ofdéjàvu - the urban landscape suspended in space is strangely familiar. The artist deconstructs the logic of historyin order to bring to life their alternative or potential models. "In my works I refer tothemesrelated to memory and its influence on the present.Particularlyaccentuated in them are issues of the constant imprinting of memories in people, which 'overgrow' them and with the help ofwhichthey weave their inner, intimate asylums." This activity is reminiscent of the Warburgian search for pictorial testimonies, which are carriers of memory traces, recalled through fixed images and aiming to capture the human mentality.

BIO

Painter, author of collages. His practice seems to correspond to Walter Benjamin's theory of the disappearance of the categories of authenticity and individual expression in the age of mass reproduction. Szczypinski undertakes a game with museum discourse - he distances himself from a set of recognized works and creates painterly found footage on their basis. In 2009 he graduated from Art History at the Jagiellonian University, in 2012 from Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. He is the author of individual exhibitions and participant in many collective exhibitions.
