Mariusz Woszczynski studied at the Faculty of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw from 1985 to 1990, he received his diploma with honors in the studio of Prof. Rajmund Ziemski, and an annex on printmaking was made by Prof. Rafał Strent. After graduation, he began teaching at his alma mater, initially as an assistant in the Graphics Department, and since 1996 in the drawing studio of the Sculpture Department. He completed his studies abroad, including at the Ecole d'Art in Marseille (1992-1993, French government scholarship), the Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf (1995-1996, Tempus Foundation and DAAD Foundation scholarship) and the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Visuels de la Cambre in Brussels (1998, Belgian government scholarship). He works in painting, drawing and printmaking (mainly lithography). His works bear the hallmarks of art brut and neo-expressionist painting of the 1980s. Genre scenes and individual figures, captured in characteristic poses and gestures, are guided by free brushstrokes on usually bright backgrounds. Titles are often written on the canvases. In landscapes, the artist avoids perspective, playing out spatial relations in backdrop or, more often, zoned compositions. The latter variety is represented by views from southern France, whose Mediterranean expression is emphasized, in addition to color, by elements such as palm trees, columns or other elements of ancient architecture.
