Geometry - it is order, it is a straight line, a circle, with the help of which I build compositions. I strive for arrangements that express the greatest emotional tension through color and the least number of plastic elements. This is because I think that the emotional charge, its depth and quality are the goal of my considerations, which I seek through fully controlled action. (B. Marian Szpakowski (1926 Zaleszczyki-1983 Zielona Gora) - Polish painter, graphic artist, art animator associated with Zielona Gora. President of the District of the Association of Polish Artists, director of the Zielona Gora Art Exhibition Office.
Studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow in the studio of Hanna Rudzka-Cybisowa. In 1954, immediately after receiving his diploma, he came to Zielona Gora, where after a few years he gained great respect and recognition, becoming the creator of most artistic events. On his initiative, the Circle group was founded, bringing together representatives of the creative circles of Krakow,Wroclaw, Zielona Gora and Polish painters in exile from London. He founded Gallery 70, which promoted creative exploration, and promoted the Golden Circle exhibition series (1963-1981).
He presented his works in various exhibition centers, including the Poznan gallery od Nowa, Warsaw's Krzywe Koło Gallery and Zachęta, as well as abroad - in London, Zurich, Rapperswil and Bern. Marian Szpakowski's works are held in the collections of the National Museums in Warsaw, Krakow, Poznan, Wroclaw and Gdansk. The largest collection is in the Museum of Lubuska Land in Zielona Gora.
