Biography
Maria Stangret - was born in 1929 in Strzelce Wielkie, Krakow. In 1958 she graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow. She was the wife and close associate of Tadeusz Kantor. She participated in all of Cricot2 Theater's ventures and Kantor's happenings. She is a member of the Krakow Group Association. She is most closely associated with Krakow's Krzysztofory and Starmach galleries and Warsaw's Foksal Gallery. She started with informel painting: the series "Continental Landscapes" (1959-60), she repainted several paintings from this series in the 1990s. The artist presented her works at many solo exhibitions at home and abroad. In the 1960s, she focused her interests on realizing happenings. Since the 1980s, the artist has created a series of works called Hommage - in tribute to people whose thoughts life and work have special meaning for her, such as Tadeusz Kantor, Anna Frank, Sergei Yesenin and others.
