The artist about the painting:
"It was almost noon. In the light falling from the cloudless sky, silence shrouded the arena. The heavy thump on the ground of the body of a matador thrown into the air by a bull reached the ears of each of the crowd gathered in the stands. In a fraction of a second it was clear that here, in an instant, what was supposed to look like another triumph of a corrida star over a blind, mindless, animal force had turned into a drama. There was no chance for any of the torreadors to come to his aid in time. The bull, wounded with banderillas, was about to charge at the matador, who pressed his hands against his horn-injured thigh in an attempt to stop the profuse bleeding. A muffled groan rang out. Hopelessness and horror hung in the air tightly intertwined. But lo and behold, a pillar of light suddenly appeared between the bull and the man, and where just moments ago there was only sand, a figure appeared. A luminous woman, sparkling in the sunlight, wearing a delicate light dress. One could hear the word Donia pronounced reverently. No one doubted that it was the patroness of the corrida herself rushing to her aid. Everything froze. One could feel the hope and anticipation of deliverance from a hopeless situation. Even on the matador's face twisted with pain, a grimace of a smile appeared. The mysterious figure stood motionless for a moment, then looked lovingly into the matador's eyes before turning away from him and walking over to the bull. The tired, panting and bleeding from its wounds animal bent its head and touched the woman's body. She placed one hand on the neck and the other on the creature's forehead. Tears flowed from the bull's eyes. The animal's sigh could be heard. The image of the woman and the bull brightened and disappeared. Later, people said that this was not the case, that the bull ran away, that it was impossible, that it was a collective hallucination. But for many of those there at the time, it was the last corrida. As it was for the matador himself, who never wanted to talk about what really happened there."
Born in 1970, he has been interested in painting since early childhood, a visual artist, poet, and seeker of meaning. He approaches life with almost philosophical precision, breaking patterns and searching for his means of artistic expression.
His paintings are surreal journeys into the farthest recesses of imagination, a sense of truth and unfettered streams of thought.
His work reveals the truth of figures, objects and landscapes, into which he weaves his surreal visions. He excels at portraiture, highlighting the character of the figures he paints. Marcus Von May's paintings have a fair amount of distance and humor, which are appreciated by collectors at home and abroad.
