Biography
Considered one of the most important Polish colorists. Studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow under I. Pieńkowski, J. Pankiewicz and F. Kowarski. In 1926 he stayed briefly in Dresden, and at the end of that year went to Paris, where he continued his artistic studies under J. Pankiewicz. He spent many hours working at the Louvre, where he made numerous copies of works by the old masters. In 1927 he fell ill with a severe lung disease and was treated in a Paris hospital. After returning to Poland, he continued his treatment in Zakopane - in 1928-29. In 1930-32 he stayed in Poznań and Warsaw, eventually settling in Cracow. He participated in exhibitions in Krakow, Poznan, Warsaw and Philadelphia. He was associated with the "Pryzmat" group, and was also a member of ZPAP. He was greatly influenced by the paintings of the great masters Rubens, Titian, Veronese, but especially Watteau and French painting of the 18th century. The subjects of his paintings are mainly mythological scenes, motifs of games, picnics, as well as still lifes, portraits and nudes.
