German painter - landscape painter. He took part in World War I in the 16th Royal Bavarian Infantry Reserve Regiment - he was seriously wounded in 1916. He studied in Munich, Berlin, as well as Stuttgart, Vienna and Paris, including under Prof. Heinrich von Zügel, Max Lieberman, Leo von König. In Stuttgart he belonged to the "Uecht" group of abstract painters, and in Vienna to the "Licht" group of Cubists. For his View of the Hardanger Fjord, he received a gold medal in Vienna in 1928. In 1930 he joined the Academy in Zürich, where he became a professor in 1932 and later also rector. In 1938 he returned to Bavaria at the request of friends. He traveled throughout Europe, the Middle East and the United States. Around 1928 he adopted the artistic pseudonym Graboné (after the name of the village in Baden-Württemberg where his family estate was located). After World War II, he reportedly gave painting lessons to General Eisenhower (and Winston Churchill). The White House dismissed this information in 1958, although it is known that a Graboné painting was in Eisenhower's collection. His paintings gained popularity among American officers stationed in Germany. He painted mountain and seascapes and travel views.
