"I personally require from painting that it is not formalistic, idle, decorative, meaningless. On the other hand, when reading paintings, all matters of light, the whole structure, construction, dynamics or consistency of matter have their importance - all this speaks about the situation in the painting. PIW, Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Warsaw 2004, p.135) In addition to light, the element that constructs an image in Jerzy Tchórzewski's work is color, about which the artist himself wrote: " For me [...] color additionally has a symbolic , meaningful value, while maintaining its constructional role. And at the same time - expressive." (Ibid, p.134).
